Communicating Doors by Alan Ayckbourn
Directed by Jennifer Snow
Communicating Doors is a play which combines three genres. It’s a time-travelling, drawing room comedy thriller. It’s 2014, and Poopay Dayseer, the unconventional heroine, is having a busy day… She’s a Specialist Sexual Consultant who’s been called to a London hotel room in the service of Reece, a frail, testy old gentleman, only to find herself enmeshed in some very dangerous business and running for her life. Through the action of the play, Poopay finds one man who wants to confess multiple murders to her, another wants to kill her, and to top it off, the communicating doors between hotel rooms seem to serve as a portal through time. There’s murder lurking in the past, and it’s up to Poopay to not only save her own life, but also the lives of two other very different women in this very funny, door-slamming, time-hopping play.
